Minimizing Energy Consumption of MPI Programs in Realistic Environment
نویسندگان
چکیده
Dynamic voltage and frequency scaling proves to be an efficient way of reducing energy consumption of servers. Energy savings are typically achieved by setting a well-chosen frequency during some program phases. However, determining suitable program phases and their associated optimal frequencies is a complex problem. Moreover, hardware is constrained by non negligible frequency transition latencies. Thus, various heuristics were proposed to determine and apply frequencies, but evaluating their efficiency remains an issue. In this paper, we translate the energy minimization problem into a mixed integer program that specifically models realistic hardware limitations. The problem solution then estimates the minimal energy consumption and the associated frequency schedule. The paper provides two different formulations and a discussion on the feasibility of each of them on realistic applications.

متن کاملCompiler-Directed Energy-Time Tradeoff in MPI Programs on DVS-Enabled Parallel Systems
Although parallel systems with high peak performance have been exciting, high peak performance often means high power consumption. In this paper, power-aware parallel systems are investigated, where each node can make dynamic voltage scaling (DVS). Based on the characteristics of communication and memory access in MPI programs, a compiler is used to automatically form communication and computat...

This paper presents a bi-objective MIP model for the flexible flow shop scheduling problem (FFSP) in which the total weighted tardiness and the energy consumption are minimized simultaneously. In addition to considering unrelated machines at each stage, the set-up times are supposed to be sequence- and machine-dependent, and it is assumed that jobs have different release tim...

In this study, a new multi-objective method is proposed to optimal manage the local energy resources and customers’ load in a microgrid in the presence of demand response programs. The wind turbine and photovoltaic panel are the renewable energy sources of the microgrid. The time of use and critical peak pricing programs are also used to improve the consumption pattern of customers. Moreover, c...
متن کاملDynamic Demand Management in an Airconditioner System by Frequency Control in Smart Grid Environment
As there is a rapid growth both in the number of power consumers and also the limitations energy resources, it is clearly accepted that the old version of power grid must change into smart grid from head to toe. One of the most important advantages of smart grid which makes it much more exclusive rather than other typical systems is the two-way connectivity between the utility and the costumers...
